Destination wedding, Koh Samui Thailand | Sam & Dan
When Sam first contacted me back in 2013 she wasn’t yet engaged, but she did have a photographer in mind for when she would be! Fast forward two years and I received another message from Sam… this time she was engaged and wondering if I would consider travelling to Thailand to photograph her destination wedding! What a special message to receive. I can still remember the elation I felt not only at the prospect of travelling to Koh Samui, but because a bride had actually followed my work for that long and was following through on her word that she would one day book me for her wedding. That’s a cool feeling.
I never in a million years thought that we would have all gone on this adventure together, but I am so glad that we did!
In the months leading up to the wedding Sam and I hit the gym together (which was a bit of a big deal for me because I am not really the gym go-er). But the time that we spent together only made the wedding day all the more special when it finally rolled around. Sam is the sweetest person and I’m proud to now call her a friend. I genuinely loved getting to know Sam and Dan’s friends and family and had the time of my life celebrating their love Thailand style!
For the first time I took my husband to a destination wedding rather than another photographer and we had an incredible time exploring the island. We kayaked and climbed mountains, ate far too much amazing food and took in all of the sights. I miss the food… holy crap… the food is seriously good. I let a sky lantern (or wish lantern) go in to the Thailand night sky during a dinner on the beach at Chaweng. It was the coolest.
Unfortunately the wind picked up on the night of the wedding, preventing the lantern release ceremony from going ahead. But Sam and Dan had the entertainment covered with fire dancers, an insanely good meal, beautiful speeches and hilarious dancing.
Did I mention it was awesome?
